Not long before Open Submission closes
There's only a couple of weeks left to catch Baltic's big and busy exhibition
The danger with long-running exhibitions is that you think there’s plenty of time to catch them… until suddenly there isn’t.
Worth seeing if you haven’t already, and worth revisiting if you have, is the Open Submission exhibition at Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art which features 104 artworks submitted by North East artists amateur and professional.
They range in age from 11-year-old ‘street artist’ Terox to 80-year-old sculptor and retired chartered accountant Paul W. Kelso.
Work by established artists Jim Moir (aka Vic Reeves), Holly Hendry and Phyllis Christopher, who were invited to take part, is also on display.
The exhibition has already attracted more than 70,000 visits, delighting director Sarah Munro who hopes some visitors will have been inspired to get creative themselves.
Open Submission, held in association with Fenwick, runs until September 22.
Baltic, meanwhile, was named the region’s most popular free attraction during 2023 in the annual attractions survey of VisitEngland, the official tourist board for England.
Baltic opens 10am to 6pm (closed Monday and Tuesday) and details of all events and exhibitions can be found at the website.
