Sam Fender’s new album People Watching tops UK charts and makes history
The North Shields singer gets some fantastic news as he prepares for this weekend's BRIT Awards
Sam Fender has cemented his place at the forefront of the British music scene with his third album, People Watching storming to the top of the UK album charts.
Achieving the biggest opening week for a British artist since Harry Styles’ Harry’s House, the album is Sam’s third consecutive chart-topper and has surpassed first week sales of his first two - Hypersonic Missiles in 2019 and 2021’s Seventeen Going Under - combined.
The 11-track album has already sold more than 107,000 units - it’s also the fastest selling vinyl album by a British artist in the 21st century.
The 30-year-old can now count himself among just nine artists who have clocked up more than 100,000 album sales in a week.
You could probably guess lots of them, but we’ll tell you anyway.
Alongside Sam and Harry, there’s Taylor Swift, Adele, Abba, Arctic Monkeys, Coldplay, Ed Sheeran and Take That.
Reacting to the news, Sam - who is up for a pair of BRIT Awards tomorrow night (March 1) and will also perform at the ceremony - said: “This is completely overwhelming. Thank you to everyone who’s supported us and listened to the album this week.”
Sam is up for Artist of the Year and Alt/Rock Act at the BRITS, which you can see on ITV and ITVX tomorrow night from 8.15pm.
